Abstract :
The research documented in this paper investigates the underlying attributes, mechanisms, advantages and disadvantages of long-distance power transmission by analysing a set of case studies based on a simple simulated system created in the PowerWorld software package. In particular, the factors that have an impact on a series of power flow variables, including active power, reactive power, magnitude and phase of voltages, will be tested and analysed. The results from this will then be compared to the simulations produced by PowerWorld. The paper intends to give readers an understanding of the PowerWorld package and its many advantages, specifically in the analysis of power flow dynamics.
