Abstract :
A UWB transceiver that employs pulsed, multiband signaling with frequency-hopping is demonstrated in a 65nm CMOS process. The transceiver satisfies ECC requirements and operates in the frequency range 6–8.5 GHz. The proposed signaling scheme provides flexibility to satisfy regulations across multiple regions with low implementation complexity. The receiver employs 4-element beamforming at IF to enhance sensitivity. The beamforming architecture does not require a wideband delay circuit at the RX. The prototype demonstrates 1 Gbps data rate over 2 meters, while consuming 221 mW in the TX and 211 mW in the receiver.
