Abstract :
The paradigm shift towards a sustainable and more flexible energy supply affects all parts of the energy supply system. Most notably the electricity system is affected by the meanwhile high share of fluctuating renewable energies on the electricity production. The discussion about needs for flexibility in transmission and storage of energy is ongoing in almost all European countries. Energy system modelling is a crucial part to determine possible solutions to overcome the challenges posed by the fast changing energy system. This paper shows a generic optimization approach for the power plant dispatch and energy storage system operation, taking into account a large amount of variables and optimization horizons.
