Abstract
The simulation and development of a transformer tap changer algorithm is presented in this paper. The basic theory behind the algorithm is conventional electrical engineering theory. A modified adaptive voltage reference setting (AVRS) algorithm is implemented and developed. The algorithm is tested on the IEEE 30 Bus and the IEEE 57 Bus test network. The simulation results of the time-series-based behaviour of the various networks, including bus voltages and tap settings, demonstrates that the proposed algorithm leads to reduced tap changing activity. Future improvements and developments, for example, an automatic arrangement of the look-up table and installation in other software applications, are highlighted.
