Abstract :
A novel taper fabrication technique for plastic optical fibers is demonstrated. Instead of conventional external heating, internal heating caused by high-power propagating light is utilized. The plastic fiber taper fabricated using this technique is experimentally shown to have measurability of the refractive index of liquids.
