  • Abstract
Extreme weather events result in many life and wealth losses all over the world. For example, the drastic increase of rainfall in Taiwan leads to a direct loss of property and human lives over the years. This study establishes a platform to monitor a variety of weather parameters in a campus to obtain more information and knowledge of the weather conditions. This platform enables us to observe 20 outdoor and 6 indoor variables, respectively, in realtime. In this paper, we show how to build this platform and further investigate the climate change during many extreme weather conditions such as Typhoon Soulik (2013/07/13) and Typhoon Tammei (2013/08/21). We also compare the measured rain rate and the wind speed to those records provided by the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan. This study also discusses possible applications based on this platform.
