Studies on charging op polymer foils by triboelectricity

Triboelectricity, which is a kind of old and well known phenomena, has been used as a method of charging of polymer electrets⁽¹⁾. G.M. Sessler has shown that this method has not been used extensively, mostly because of lack of accurate reproducibility⁽²⁾ R. Gerhard-Multhaupt mentioned in his recent paper that triboelectricity will probably be used as a simple and safe charging method⁽³⁾. We used "The Arrangement of Triboelectrometer and Auto-measuring Recorder" which was assembled by us to charge polymer such as LDPE, PS and teflon PEP foils. In this paper we discuss effects of some factors such as fimes of friction (n), normal pressure (p), frictional separate velocity (v) and relative humidity (RH) at RT. The results of our experiments have shown that charging electret by using suitable frictional materials is controllable, reproduceable and relatively uniform.
