Abstract :
Unique electrodynamic response of graphene results in a manifestation of an unusual transverse-electric (TE) plasmons near the spectral onset of interband transitions. However, excitation and further detection of TE plasmons supported by graphene is challenging for they are extremely sensitive to excitation environment and weakly bound at finite temperatures. Here for the first time, we present feasible and effective approach to direct optical probing of TE plasmons demonstrating significant plasmonic coupling to an incident wave in electrically doped multilayer graphene sheet. Obtained access to graphene´s TE plasmonic excitation enables potential employing of this unique phenomenon in the fields of metamaterials, plasmonics, and characterization of graphene.
