Abstract
In present paper two key properties of two dimensional electromagnetic structures (2D-EBGs) are presented. They are named as (i) PMC (Perfect Magnetic Conductor) and (ii) Band Reject Region are investigated. The architecture of 2DEBG considered is of square mushroom shaped. In later section the radiation characteristics of monopole antenna is tested over this 2D-EBG. This testing is performed in two stages in first stage; monopole antenna is made to operate within band rejection region. In second stage monopole antenna is made to operate outside the band rejection range. The results obtained during first case is showing enhancement in operating band width and smoother radiation pattern. In second case the effect is null hence we conclude the 2D-EBG resembles like conventional plane reflector in second case. The simulated results of both the cases are presented.
