Abstract :
Measures of engineering identity have been designed for an aggregate group of engineering students leaving the ways that students of color develop their engineering identities unexplored. This work in progress paper presents a culturally situated survey of engineering identity for Latina/o undergraduates. The survey was built using data from 20 interviews and observations with engineering Latina/o students. This study took an asset-based approach through the use of the Community Cultural Wealth framework. The survey was administered to 75 students. Using the survey responses of 33 engineering identity items, exploratory factor analysis was performed to examine the structural validity of the survey.
