  • Abstract
In this paper, we investigate how to select the best access network efficiently for Low-Power Mobile Terminal (LPMT) when move in integrated WLAN/UMTS environment. A novel network selection mechanism based on adaptive weight adjustment is proposed in order to further reduce unnecessary handoff and extend battery lifetimes of low-power mobile terminal. We construct a novel multi-objective optimization model in proposed adaptive weight adjustment algorithm to make the values of attribute weight contain both objective and subjective information, and meantime conserve LPMT energy consumption without impacting the perceived quality of service (QoS). Then, we solve the optimization problem by using Lagrange method. Detailed simulations show that the proposed mechanism effectively selects the best access network and reduces the energy consumption of LPMT.
