Abstract :
In this paper a frequency tuned rectangular microstrip antenna with alternate M shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed. In the absence of DGS the structure is found to resonate at 5.8 GHz. When an angular defect is incorporated in the ground plane, a frequency shift of 5.8 GHz to 1.8 GHz is observed. Further modifications in the length of the defect result in frequency shifting to 2.4 GHz and 3.5 GHz consequently. Thus the proposed microstrip antenna exhibits frequency tuning properties. One of the salient contribution of the paper is the miniaturization of 90.42% which is worth appreciating.
