Abstract :
This paper presents a general integrated dimensioning methodology for serial hybrid traction system using hub motors. It aims to define the requirement specification for each power component before the beginning of any design and optimization process. So, the general topology of the chosen traction system and its thermal and energy storage management are first described. Then, each step of the dimensioning methodology that improves mass distribution, efficiency and performances are detailed. These steps need mechanical models describing the dynamic of vehicle displacement and suspension systems and which are also developed. Then, many electrical models linked to chosen topology and based on simplified hypothesis are suggested to consider battery voltage drop and losses on transient power demand. Electrical component efficiencies and electrical machine saturation behavior are considered by these models helping to make accurate sizing choices to reach or exceed expected performances.
