Abstract :
In this paper, the use of synchronous reluctance machines as traction drives for electric vehicles is investigated. For this purpose, a synchronous reluctance machine is designed. In the first step, the machine is optimized for the rated operating point. In this connection, aspects like the ribs of the iron sheets of the rotor at the air gap are optimized. The stator is used from a reference permanent magnet machine. Then, a calculation of efficiency-optimized torque-speed characteristics of some relevant values like the inductances in the d- and q-axis is made. In the final step, the machine is compared to the reference machine.
