Abstract :
Link-state routing protocols have the advantage of robustness, support of the shortest path routing, and a fast convergence time in comparison to distant vector routing protocols. However, owing to scalability problems, link-state protocols are traditionally used only for intra-domain routing on the Internet. In this paper, we present hierarchical link-state routing (HLSR), a hierarchical link-state protocol for scalable inter-domain routing on the future Internet. For HLSR, we propose a recursively structured domain architecture and a new link-state algorithm that reduces the size of the topology graph for scalable routing. We proved the effectiveness of HLSR through a performance analysis.
