Abstract :
In this paper we study secondary adjacent channel usage between airport surveillance radar (ASR) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) in 2700-2900 MHz radar band. Various methods and scenarios of compatibility assessment are presented. Compatibility studies entail both parties (primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU)) being able to operate well without causing harmful electromagnetic interference to each other. We used minimum coupling loss (MCL) method to evaluate adjacent channel usage between single victim LTE (BS or MS) and ASR. We present other scenarios where ASR is the victim receiver using MCL. It is shown that short distances of separation are required for coexistence during 83.3% of time due to the slow rotation rate of the radar antenna and narrow main beam width. The Monte Carlo (MC) method is used in other scenarios to evaluate aggregate interference from multiple interfering LTE BSs. Some useful conclusions are thereby made based on our results.
