Abstract :
In this paper, we show the effect of phase noise on the bit-error rate performance in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems based on IEEE 802.11ad standards. We consider two different systems; (1) a system which has multiple antennas with independent phase noise at transmit and receive side and (2) a system which has coherent phase noise from common local oscillators. Mathematical representation of the demodulated signal with phase noise is derived and simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effects of phase noise in each system. We see from out simulations that the performance degradation becomes worse for the first case, that is, when phase noise is independent at all transmit and receive antennas.
