Abstract :
Erosion of electrical contacts due to arcing is of major concern in switching devices. Based on the current density, the mode of erosion can be considered as limited to vaporization or splashing of molten metal that may start at higher intensities. Various parameters like electromagnetic forces, surface tension, viscosity and even gravity affects the extent of erosion.
