Abstract :
This work is an effort to develop robust and cost effective monitoring tools for electric power networks. Current and voltage transformers currently used in grid monitoring are limited in their capabilities, especially lacking in the frequency bandwidth needed to observe slow-moving phenomena as well as fast (kHz range) events related to faults and switching of power electronics equipment. The paper presents a novel voltage and current measurement sensor that can be easily deployed at a desired location in the live power transmission and distribution grids. The sensor does not require galvanic contact with the energized conductor. The sensor operation as well as experimental results are presented and discussed.
