Abstract :
IEC 61850 is the standard for communication networks and systems within electrical substations. All substation functions, information and process equipment interfaces can be virtually represented in IEC 61850 worlds. Disturbance and fault data can be retrieve from the DFR and IEDs that produce single file call COMTRADE file which is very important to engineers to analyze the disturbance and fault events. The different of the DFR and IED is the different sampling rate which the sampling rate of the DFR is more than the IEDs. Even though the sampling rate of DFR and IEDs are different, it is important to have both COMTRADE file in order to have an accurate and precise results. This paper presents the design of standalone digital fault recorder in IEC61850 that covers the physical design and the logical nodes design in system verification and simulation laboratory in TNB Research. The results of the research and developments of the design are to provide a platform to retrieve the COMTRADE file from DFR and IEDs by using the IEC61850 services.
