Abstract
Given the importance of the microgrid concept towards building a sustainable electricity system, many innovative techniques and technologies have been proposed all over the world to address the challenges of microgrid such as power quality, power flow balancing, real-time power management, voltage and frequency control, load sharing during islanding, protection, stability, reliability, efficiency, and economical operation. This paper aims to provide a review of all key issues of the microgrid and proposed solutions. Pros and cones of different available methods and technologies as well as areas of needed improvement for microgid applications are discussed. Dynamic modeling application evaluation and investigation into modular microgrid modeling is also presented. Such methods could prove reliable requisite for efficient modeling and analysis for researchers and investors. With suitable control principles, modeling and simulation techniques, microgrid stands to exponentially increase the efficiency of modern power distribution and presents extensive opportunity for distributed generation implementation.
