Abstract
This technical paper focuses on the special test demands for electricity meter equipment with an emphasis on the actual requirement from the industrial markets, and with an interesting outlook to the upcoming standards for electricity meters and their measurement techniques for immunity to conducted, differential mode disturbances in the frequency range from 2 kHz to 150 kHz, at ac. ports. Recent studies have shown that electricity meters are being influenced by new types of symmetrical currents; have their origin coming from photovoitaic inverters, switching power Supplies, USPs (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) or other similar devices. Until lately, such symmetrical currents have not been addressed in any generic, basic or product standard. Those phenomena have been identified, analyzed and summarized in the new and basic standard IEC 61000-419. Especially Annex C of the IEC 61000-4-19 focuses on immunity testing of electricity meters against these new phenomena. Also, the new technical report, TR 50579 for electricity metering equipment, addresses the severity levels, immunity requirements and test methods for conducted disturbances in the frequency range 2 kHz - 150 kHz.
