Abstract :
A hybrid wind turbine generator system is proposed to compensate the fluctuation in the wind power with power generated by a synchronous generator driven by other kinds of energy sources. The hybrid generator system has also an ability to control reactive power as well as active power of the output to grid. Thus, the hybrid system makes it possible to accept wind power to a weak grid. In this paper, the basic idea of active and reactive power control strategy for the hybrid system is first shown, and the steady-state characteristics of the whole system are then investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Also, the dynamic responses of the system are studied for the cases when wind velocity is changed, and it is shown that the active and reactive powers can be controlled with the proposed control system.
