  • Abstract
    Due to the benefits associated with Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) in Electric Vehicles (EV), tremendous research has been ongoing for the last two decades to improve the technology. One of the key components of WPT in EVs is the transmitting and the receiving coils, commonly referred to as the inductive power transfer (IPT) transformer. This paper reviews two categories of IPT Transformers: Single-sided and Double-sided winding. Components of IPT system, safety considerations and key expressions relating to mutual inductance, coefficient of coupling and quality factor are also presented.
