Abstract :
Developing a calligraphy imitation system, for example, based on the Android OS, is significant to the heritage of Chinese culture, especially for the Chinese calligraphy lovers or the beginning learner. In this paper, we proposed a calligraphy imitation system based on a virtual brush and scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT). According to the movement rate and strength of users finger touching on the screen of mobile phone, we can simulate a specified Chinese character with the virtual brush. Meanwhile, the SIFT is employed to train the feature library of a large number of Chinese characters. And then, we take advantage of the photograph method or virtual brush to obtain an imitated calligraphy character. By means of SIFT matching the feature library, the basic information of the imitated characters can be acquired, such as dynasty, calligrapher, character font, source, etc. The experiment results indicate that this system is able to imitate the Chinese characters exactly and match the accurate images efficiently.
