Abstract :
A multilayered slot antenna with the feasibility of low profile and high gain is designed and optimized. Gain enhancement is achieved by simultaneously implementing mushroom-like electromagnetic gap band (EBG) structures and a Fabry-Pérot cavity (FPC), which operate in the same frequency range. This design method has been validated by simulation. Compared with a slot antenna with a conventional metal reflector, the proposed antenna accomplishes high gain up to 11.1 dBi and maintains the overall volume of 1.05λ0 × 1.05λ0 × 0.19λ0. Furthermore, a bandwidth of 5.7% for 10 dB return loss is adjusted to application of WLAN system covering IEEE 802.11a (5.15-5.35GHz). The excellent performance of the proposed antenna makes it a good candidate for wireless communication.
