Abstract :
All over the world ionizing radiation is used for medical purposes with risks and benefits. The total dose absorbed by every patient during a medical investigation is generally provided by modern medical equipment and it is usually recorded but it is not cumulated or even expressed using the same units. A pilot Romanian project tries to accomplish one of these tasks. In order to estimate the effective dose, the International System of Units uses the Sievert (Sv) as a derived unit, but the new system implements it as a central unit. The system uses computers, special design software, smart cards and its security is based on Public Key Infrastructure. Data flows and the real implementation methods are also described in this article.
