Abstract :
In this paper, the cotton leaf geometry is proposed as a microstrip-fed printed monopole antenna with a bio-inspired model for applications of ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. The design of the proposed geometry is described, and simulated results obtained using the Method of Moments are presented. they show that the cotton leaf antenna can achieve a return loss less than -10 dB with an ultra-wide bandwidth of 10 GHz, from 3 GHz to 13 GHz. So, the proposed antenna satisfies the bandwidth required for UWB applications. The obtained experimental results present a very good agreement when compared to the simulated ones and confirm the expected frequency behavior with a good impedance matching. These characteristics turn the printed monopole antenna with patch cotton leaf-shaped very attractive for ultra wideband applications.
