  • Abstract
This paper presents a method to estimate the directional reflection of cloud using data from a geostationary satellite, the Meteosat Second Generation (visible band, 0.45-1.0 μm). Directional reflection of the surfaces and atmospheric components is a key factor for the accuracy of the remote sensing application. The directional reflection was defined as a bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF). The estimated directional reflection of cloud has high relationship with the Lambertian surface, with high correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.97).
