A Proposed Framework for IT Use Policy

Role of information technology (IT) within the organization become part of the strategy for the organization in achieving competitive advantage. This is because information technology can create added value for the organization. However, appropriate management of information technology has also become a challenge for the organization in creating effective use of IT and beneficial to the organization. Control over the use of IT in the organization becomes important to be considered by the organization that has made IT as supporting business. To direct and regulate the use of IT within the organization in order to achieve the expected goals, organizations need policies that govern how the use of IT in order to achieve the effectiveness of IT. This study proposes a framework of policy making use of IT by modifying existing policy framework and some policy-related theories. Findings from the research indicate that most IT policy framework focusing on certain Technology. The proposed framework takes a holistic approach to IT use policy in organization. Theframework combines the concept of a hierarchy of policies of Wies and IT governance and Peter Weill and Jeanne W. Ross, from MIT, Boston, Massachusetts.
