  • Abstract
Received video quality depends on the available bandwidth (it would determine the video bit-rate), the packet loss rate (PLR), the end-to-end delay, and so on. Even low packet loss rate can reduce the video quality significantly. Recent results suggest applying packet level parity FEC to the video stream in order to decrease the impact of packet loss on video quality. How to determine the amount of redundant information in FEC is one problem. For limited bandwidth, high sending rate will increase the video quality, but it will also lead to high end- to-end delay (queue delay will increase when incoming rate comes close to out-coming rate). How to choose the "best" sending rate is another problem. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to optimize the sending rate and the amount of redundancy based on the quality of experience as modeled by the ITU-T R G.1070 standard.
