Abstract
In this paper, a generalized Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) control using posture effect on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID tag detection is proposed. The idea is based on the polarization characteristic of passive tag antenna. When it is placed in horizontal and vertical orientation, the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) measured by the reader antenna will be distinct. Based on the variations of RSSI, different functions can be achieved. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of this idea, a prototype RFID cane and the control system are designed and tested, respectively. The experimental results show that by changing the angle of posture, i.e., in horizontal and vertical orientation, we can control the system to achieve different printing functions, which may be useful for Vision Impaired Person (VIP) application.
