Abstract
An antenna measurement system capable of performing radiation pattern characterization is designed and implemented. Those essential building components are described and discussed in detail. The three-antenna method is adopted to obtain the absolute gain of the antenna under test. Even under a noisy classroom with WiFi signals presented, the measurable gain still ranges from -27.3 to 17.7 dBi and can be significantly improved by placing the system in the anechoic room. The resultant system facilitates the users have insight on the basic operation principle of Friis transmission equation widely used in telecommunication engineering. Hence, the system is a good courseware for theory demonstration during school course teaching. Specifically, the system is validated by a planar-inverted-F antenna as a measurement example.
