Abstract
This article presents a multilayer stacked Sierpinski gasket equilateral triangle fractal antenna with proximity feeding. The two layers of fractals excite two resonant frequencies of the IEEE802.11a/b bands. The antenna is fed using proximity feeding mechanism with a defected ground structure (DGS) using a + shaped slot in it. This helps in exciting the third resonant frequency of the C band. The proposed triband antenna is much smaller than the conventional Euclidean type antennas and it covers three frequency bands namely (2.4-2.485) GHz suitable for IEEE 802.11b band, (4.78-5.26) GHz suitable for IEEE802.11a, U-NII-1 band (5.18-5.24 GHz) and (6.70-6.96) GHz for C band applications. The proposed antenna shows a gain of 5.14dB, 5.85db and 9.58dB at the center frequency of the three bands respectively, thereby making the antenna suitable for long distance communications. The design and simulation of the antenna is done using CST MWSV´10.
