Abstract :
In this paper, a planar substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) horn antenna loaded with dielectric slab for bandwidth enhancement is proposed. The impact of loaded dielectric slab parameters on the bandwidth and radiation pattern of the antenna is analyzed in detail. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed concept, the SIW horn antenna loaded with air-via perforated dielectric slab is manufactured and measured. Measured results illustrate that the enhanced impedance bandwidth of 40% is obtained from 16 GHz to 24 GHz with the return loss |S11| below -10 dB. In addition, stable radiation patterns with almost the same E-plane and H-plane pattern are observed over the entire operating band.
