Abstract :
Scene flicker is a common artifact in old archival films. This arises mainly due to aging and causes significant degradation in the perceptual quality of a video. As most of the restoration techniques use temporal information, removal of other artifacts, like blotch, scratch, tearing etc., is highly depended on the consistency of illumination in a video scene. Human vision system is also more sensitive to the luminance information of a scene than the color information. As a result, any flickering in intensity is highly undesirable to viewers. Thus removal of intensity flicker in archival films is a well investigated problem in video processing. In this paper we have proposed a novel method for detection and removal of intensity flicker using video decomposition. The proposed algorithm is much faster than the existing methods and produces better restoration.
