Abstract :
Group of small sensor nodes that are able of sensing, processing and transmitting data correlated to some occurrence in the network area are termed as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The sensor nodes have rigorous shortcomings, such as: bandwidth, short broadcasting range, limited CPU processing facility, memory and energy. Energy efficient routing algorithms have been mentioned in various articles in order to enhance network lifetime. In this paper, we reported the conditions for proficient use of energy using ant colony optimization technique. The performance of the directed diffusion routing protocol and rumor routing protocol have been analyzed and compared to compute the energy consumption for the sensor network area. Results show that directed diffusion routing protocol with ant colony optimization provides more feasible routing solutions in source to sink node and provide significant improvement of the lifetime of the sensor network.
