Abstract
An analysis of the nature of network delay will reveal two distinct components: a physical component due to the finite speed of light, and a telecommunications component associated with signal processing in telecommunications equipment. If the communication cable is laid in an area with a significant height difference, the redshift effect will change the frequency of the telecommunications signal. This dispersion leads to a change in signal propagation time, which can be identified in a special experiment. The present paper proposes a new experimental scheme for such cable involving a special ring profile, combining fast descent and slow climb. The meeting point of telecommunication signals propagating along the fiber-optic cable in opposite directions will slowly move during the experiment. Here the experiment time and number of passes required to detect the effect of the red shift are estimated.
