Abstract
Transmission of image/video over unreliable medium like wireless networks generally results to receive a damaged image/video. In this paper, a novel robust image transmission scheme based on data partitioning and data hiding is proposed. In the encoder side, coefficients of the wavelet decomposed image are split into separate partitions. In next step, a very low bit-rate, high quality reference is generated for each partition. This reference is then embedded into another partition using a robust data hiding scheme based on the quantization index modulation (QIM). In the decoder side, if a part of the image is lost, the corresponding reference is extracted to reconstruct the lost information, thus concealing transmission errors. Performance results show the proposed technique provides high perceptual quality of reconstructed images at the end-user despite the channel losses and outperforms the existing approaches.
