Abstract :
Is it possible to circumnavigate the globe with a solar powered car, that has an overall energy consumption that is equivalent to no more than 80 liters of gasoline? With the construction of the SolarWorld GT students from the Bochum University of Applied Sciences had shown, that his ambitious objective could be achieved. This paper illustrates, how the general approach looked like, to design a car that meets this requirements. After giving an overview of assumptions that had been made, an analytical energy balancing for the car is carried out. Subsequently, these calculated data will be validated with measured data, which has been logged during the global circumnavigation.
