Abstract :
Multicore processors are becoming dominant in todays computing environment. All multicore processors are with cache coherent memory model. Users can have multiple (processors) cores on a single chip for processing. While different cores communicate with each other through shared address space, the problem of cache coherency limits the performance of multicore systems. Different techniques can be applied to prevent cache incoherence. A survey of different techniques to improve cache performance in context of cache coherence has been presented here with focus on parameters like cache miss rate, average memory access time, execution time, energy, area, scalability. The survey indicates the need for a cache coherency model that supports scalability with minimum latency.
