Abstract :
The successful islanding operation of distribution system requires an efficient islanding detection technique and under frequency load shedding scheme. The islanding detection technique is necessary to detect accurately the islanding phenomenon and under frequency load shedding scheme is essential to control frequency when the load exceeds the generation. This paper presents a new strategy for successful islanding operation of distribution system connected with rotating type DGs. The proposed strategy mainly consists of three stages. First stage uses an islanding detection technique to detect islanding event correctly. The second stage calculates the load amount to be shed. Finally, the third stage performs under frequency load shedding to recover the frequency to its nominal value. The proposed strategy is tested on an 11 kV Malaysian distribution system. The simulation results show that proposed strategy successfully performed the islanding operation by shedding accurate amount of loads.
