  • Abstract
The main objective of this work is to illustrate a cost-effective smart meter. It is designed to measure the demand´s power consumption and support the new requirements for operation and control functions in the distribution networks. Also, we propose and implement a novel DR program for this SM. The smart meter can be used as energy meter or as power quality meter (10 seconds, average). Based on open source technologies, it offers a plurality of communication possibilities, like USB, Ethernet, ZigBee or WLAN (802.11n). Additional calculations can be done within the external central system (DR Manager).
