  • Abstract
The wind field around the transmission tower changes to be irregular and variable due to the complex terrain. With the increasing development of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the CFD technique shows an enormous potential on the prediction of the wind field. In order to explore the performance of the wind flow over such a landscape, the CFD simulation was conducted in this paper for a wide region in Zhenjiang, where the transmission tower collapsed in 2009. The result shows a great difference of the wind velocity between the simulated results and the statistical data. There is a high probability for the transmission tower to collapse, considering the substantial velocity increment. To avoid these accidents, the influence of complex terrain must be taken into consideration.
