Abstract
Capacity of wind power installed in grid has experienced a rapid increase in recent years all over the world. Uncertain wind power integration has important effects on power system operations. Discrete time based average power model is usually adopted in short-term generation scheduling of power systems which can result in an imbalance in energy delivery. This paper proposes a method to minimize the wind curtailment and to analyze the wind integration capacity from an energy based formulation instead of the usually adopted average power based one. The method is based on an exact formulation and detailed analysis of the electrical energy produced by conventional generators. Then, a nonlinear program is proposed to minimize the wind curtailment. Numerical results show that the optimization model presented in this paper can give an energy based assessment of the wind integration capacity.
