Abstract
A simple initial rotor position identification method is proposed for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSMs) in this paper. The magnetic saturation of iron core is taken into account and the saturated d-axis current is generated by injecting voltage vector pulses. The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is used to acquire the voltage vector pulses and an assumed rotor position sequence is treated as the actual initial rotor position. If the assumed rotor position is equal to the actual rotor position, the assumed d-axis current will reach its maximum value, which is the base of the proposed method. Some simulation results have been provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed identification method.
