Abstract :
The mechanical structure of the 2-phase 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) with a non-uniform air gap make it suitable for unidirectional rotation applications such as air-blower. The non-uniform air gap is applied on the rotor shape to increase the positive torque region, and makes the motor can be operated at any rotor position without torque dead-zone. The 4/3 SRM is employed 4-stator and 3-rotor poles. The motor stator is separated with two segmental C-cores that used combination with 3-rotor poles form the flux path in a shortest closed loop. Short flux path technique helps the motor reduce the core losses while increase the efficiency. In order to verify the design, a prototype was manufactured for laboratory test.
