Abstract :
The increasing interest in multiphase drive systems has led to the development of different inverter topologies and different pulse width modulation (PWM) methods. Because of simple computation, Carrier-based PWM (CPWM) is better than Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) as the phase number increases. Although much work has been done on modifying PWM methods to reduce the common mode voltage (CMV), not enough work has been done on CPWM methods with CMV reduction for multiphase drive. This paper proposes a novel CPWM method that can effectively reduce the CMV voltage and the zero-sequence current, and employs the intersection plotting method to explain how the CMV is eliminated. Simulation results of a five-phase dual-H inverter demonstrate the theory analysis. However, because of the deadtime effect, the zero-sequence current in the experimental results is not totally eliminated, which needs further research.
