Abstract :
In this paper, a study of dynamic torque ripples using an integrated simulation model of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor and drive systems is presented. An accurate simulation-based model of a BLDC motor based on Phase-Variable approach considering the effect of structural saliency is described. The proposed integrated motor drive model is developed in MATLAB Simulink, which allows drive system designers to explore and optimize torque ripple effect in the entire design process with fast simulation time while maintaining the same accuracy compared to the nonlinear Finite-Element (FE) analysis. The simulation results show good agreement between the simulation-based motor model and the full static FE solution, confirm that the torque ripple effect of the BLDC motor can be accurately represented by using the integrated co-simulation Phase-Variable BLDC motor drive system.
