  • Abstract
In this paper, a cell to cell voltage balancing for battery systems is proposed. Batteries of series-connected are widely used in various applications. Differences always exist between different batteries, therefore, a charge equalizer is necessary for the energy system consisting of many batteries either in series or in parallel. A battery management system is usually used to increase the life cycle and available capacity of battery system. The energy transfer of inductor-based balancing circuit is fast, however, a precise control is required. The worst case occurs when the energy is transferred from the first battery to the last one. Thus, a balance method with a chain structure of switched capacitor is proposed for battery energy systems. The simulations results are provided to confirm the performance of proposed charge equalizer.
